Handmade Baby Blankets

Handmade Baby Blankets Make The Perfect Baby Shower Gift

If you’re not sure what gift you should buy for your next baby shower, then why not consider saving some money and take some time to making some handmade baby blankets. They make the perfect gift for any baby shower and the mother expecting will greatly appreciate it. By just following a few simple steps, you can easily make handmade baby blankets in a very short time without having to become a sewing expert.

To begin, you’re first going to need some basic materials. You’re going to need 2 pieces of fabric, preferably fleece. You can either have them both be the same color or you can choose two different colors, it’s up to you. Just make sure that the fleece you buy is not too thick or you will have a very difficult time cutting it.

The second important item you’ll need to make handmade baby blankets is a pair of sharp scissors. Try to look for the least expensive pair, since this will be the only time you will use them. Fleece is such a tough fabric, that it will completely dull the sharpness of the scissors making them useless afterward.

The last two materials you will need are some tape and some paperclips. All these items can easily be found at any office supply store or hobby shop like Office Depot, and Michaels.

Once you’ve purchased all the materials, it’s time to get started making the handmade baby blankets. The first step is to make sure that the fabric, in this case the two pieces of fleece, are both the same length and width. Then, lay each piece on top of the other and use the paper clips to hold them in place.

Once you have the 2 pieces of fleece paper clipped together, you must then begin cutting the outer edges. A length anywhere between 4 inches and about an inch in width is a good measurement for the fringes. If you want to be more exact in the cutting process, then another item you would need is a ruler.

Once you’ve completed cutting the fringes for all sides of the handmade baby blanket, you can then move on to tying each fringe together. This last part can be a bit tedious and difficult as each fringe tied must be tied a certain way or else you risk ruining the entire blanket. You can either tie each fringe using one knot, or a double knot to prevent them from untying during a wash.

After tying the fringes on all four sides of the blanket, then you are pretty much done. You now have a beautifully handmade baby blanket you can wrap up and give to a new mother.
